About

The Monik Nordine Quartet

since circa 2018
The Monik Nordine Quartet features the music of composers such as Oscar Peterson, Sonny Greenwich, Hugh Fraser and other more. Monik has set out to highlight Canadian works with this group and the stylistic influences lean heavily on Miles Davis and Sonny Stitt. Joined by bassist Bruce Meikle, drummer David Emery the band has been featured by the Nanaimo International Jazz Festival and also by the Left Coast Jazz Festival.

Guitarist Astrid Lyre draws her inspiration from Jimi Hendrix, Julian Lage, and Wayne Krantz. Astrid's approach to the guitar is bold and fresh. She thrives on taking musical risks and weaves an intricate improvised tapestry of interaction and interplay.

Together they are making a new sound in Canadian jazz.
