Access to Music Foundation presents A Night to Honour Senator Tommy Banks, Wednesday October 22nd, doors 7pm.
Senator Tommy Banks has conducted symphony orchestras throughout North America and Europe as well as his history as a beloved CBC host of nationally and internationally syndicated and network television programmes, including "The Tommy Banks Show", "Celebrity Revue", "Tommy Banks Jazz", and many more. He has appeared or collaborated with such luminaries as Clifford Jordan, Sonny Stitt, John Handy, Zoot Sims, Mark Murphy, Anita O'Day, Nat Adderly, Al Cohn, Pepper Adams, Joe Williams, Art Farmer, and many other greats. His musical recordings are on Century II Records, distributed by Royalty Records.
Senator Banks has also been a driving force behind progressive arts policy in his capacity as founding chairman of the Alberta Foundation for the Performing Arts, as well as a member of the Canada Council for the Arts and Edmonton Concert Hall Foundation. He is the recipient of an honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Alberta, of the Sir Frederick Haultain Prize, the Alberta Order of Excellence, and is an Officer of the Order of Canada. In the more than fifty years since his professional debut, Tommy Banks has become a part of almost every facet of Canada's entertainment scene.
Joining Senator Banks on October 22nd are hosts for the evening Vicki Gabereau & Terry David Mulligan, and musical guests: Sister Says, Robyn & Ryleigh, Steve Sainas, Pacifika, Jim Byrnes, Paul Pigat, Kylee Epp, The Matinee and Champagne Republic. General admission for the evening is $25 and VIP tickets are $70. Tickets are available at Eventbrite.ca. All funds raised go to Access to Music Foundation for their BC childrens music programs.
