Event Description
Bring your art, dance, poetry and music in honour & celebration for International Women’s Day. Everyone is welcome! This event is trans women inclusive, and we want it to be a safe space for everyone to participate. We want to be inclusive to women of all backgrounds, and acknowledge that feminism needs to be intersectional. Get in touch if there's something you feel we could be doing better to make this event more inclusive and a safer space.
March 8th is International Women’s Day - a day to recognize women’s achievements and acknowledge the challenges they continue to face in the quest for gender equality. We will gather with music, dance, performance art, and poetry to honour the diversity of women and our collective strength.
The inspiration for International Women's Day dates back to 1909, when the United States celebrated the first National Women’s Day on Feb. 28. The Socialist Party of America declared the holiday, reportedly as a result of a 1908 garment workers' strike in which women protested against poor pay and working conditions.
We are looking for donations of bread and roses to hand out to the women. For more information about the event contact Barbara at barbaramp60@gmail.com or 250-220-5355.
