Event Description
The debut of a two-vocalist led project featuring some of Victoria's best young musicians, you will not want to miss!
Anise Russow is a multi-genre vocalist who grew up in Victoria and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music at Humber College in Toronto.
Over the past 6 years, she has been featured in various bands such as "The West Coast Soul Collective", "The Midnights", and "Groove Kitchen”, as well as her own projects. Anise has graced the stages at The TD Victoria Jazz Festival, The Canada Dry Victoria Dragonboat Festival, the Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival, and more.
Working to craft a collaborative and expressive experience between everyone involved, Anise’s soulful vocals, confidence, and wonderful stage presence create a warm atmosphere in any venue.
Sharing the role of bandleader is 2x Downbeat Magazine award winner, Sarah Stevenson. Stevenson was born and raised just an hour and a half north from Victoria, in Nanaimo.
With a background competing nationally and internationally with the Wellington Secondary Jazz Academy, she won the vocal sweepstakes at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho, and became the first ever vocalist to be in the National Youth Jazz Combo in 2023.
Now studying jazz voice at McGill University, Stevenson has seamlessly integrated into Montreal's vibrant jazz scene. She's graced renowned venues such as Upstairs Jazz Club and Maison De La Culture, and holds a residency at Barbossa, a popular jam spot for Montreal's jazz aficionados.
Drawing inspiration from jazz icons like Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, and Ella Fitzgerald, Stevenson delivers classic jazz with warm vocals and horn-like improvisation.
These two multi-talented young women are excitedly working together on a night to remember. With arrangements of classic jazz repertoire, ballads, and more, the two singers promise a night of beautiful music.
Joined by more of Vancouver Island's award-winning musicians; Emmett Hodgins on piano, Matisse Gubby-Hurtig on bass, and Ryan Bennett on drums, the show is sure to be captivating in every way.
